For me, the starting point of any conversion is solar. It's a no brainer for me to include as much solar as possible.
New solar tech is so good that in summer it's easy to live completely off grid. In winter, it's more difficult - but I think the benefits of solar are obvious.
Managing to squeeze 700 watts of panels on the roof means that even on overcast days, the panels will still generate enough to charge phones and laptops while running a fridge and lighting. In the summer you'll never need to pay for hook ups!
